Kitsune (Japanese Fox)
Kitsune (Keet-su-nay) originate from Eastern folklore, both China and Japan have their own depictions of these mystical foxes. Kitsune is a Japanese fox, recognized for its incredible magick, wisdom, power and alignment with the Astral plane. These foxes come in a variety of categories, from good to evil, light to dark. Those aligned in good are very closely represented by the Japanese God of Rice, Inari. There are shrines in Japan both dedicated to the Kitsune and God Inari. The shrines are proceeded with offerings and prayers of gratitude that honor the fox spirits and God. In folklore, the Kitsune of Inari were represented as his messengers. Folklore now often recognizes the God Inari as a fox.
A Kitsune's number of tails tell of their age, rank, and wisdom. Nine tails are the maximum, often notably changing their fur to a glowing white or gold. One, five, seven, and nine are the most commonly depicted number in folklore. It is said these beings must first live over 100 years to begin gaining more tails. It is only at a 1000 years of age, according to folklore, a Kitsune may gain its ninth, final tail, then it may ascend to celestial realms.
Personality varies with these beasts, especially based on age and wisdom. They always have a bright sense of humor and love to laugh and joke. Some enjoy trickery and pranks, especially the youthful foxes who may find entertainment in irritating you. When conjuring Kitsune, I only look for those manifesting wisdom to do good and not to cause careless mischief. That said, each fox enjoys a joke and may manifest in ways to make you laugh and enjoy the playful energy.
The Kitsune are skilled shapeshifters, often taking beautiful Japanese forms as humans. The powers these fox are capable of manifesting are of grand scale. One with nine tails may gain abilities to manipulate time and space, to protect against storms and calm lightning. They can create their own Astral realms to inhabit, help you travel safely to other planes, as well, they can heal and banish any harmful energy. Each Kitsune I am blessed with offering will be detailed specifically in its listing.
